MARCH 2023 - www.CWEPTA.com

Message from the President

Hello Cougar Parents,

We are heading towards our last 9 weeks, and CWE PTA is excited about the various events we have planned for our kids in the upcoming months. With all of your donations, we have been able to get the kids new books for the library, all the field trips, assemblies, and many more. Every month we have Harvest of the Month sponsored by the PTA and headed by the Wellness chair. It is an opportunity to expose and educate our kids to new fruits and vegetables grown locally as well as to support our local farmers. This coming 9 weeks we have Art a la carte, Hands-On-Science, Assemblies, and Field day to look forward to. We know the next few months will be busy, but we are all pumped up to complete this school year with even more vigor.

We are very appreciative of all the volunteering hours put in by our parents. Our teachers, staff, and kids are reaping the benefits of such supportive parents. We are extremely proud to announce that Commonwealth Elementary was ranked #1 for elementary campuses in the Houston region and #2 in the State of Texas on the Children’s At Risk's 2022 listing of schools.

We had an amazing Open House and World Culture Day! Thank you to all the parents who stepped up and volunteered, from instructing the in-class sessions and helping put up all the kids' work throughout the school, to training and preparing the kids for the various performances. We had a total of 28 performances celebrating different cultures all around the world - Latin America, China, Philippines, India, Spain, Nigeria, Pakistan and more. It was a colorful, energetic, and fun evening! Susana Luehrs and Yulin Xuan excelled in bringing out the true meaning of Unity in Diversity. We are so proud to be part of a school that embraces and treasures our beautiful mix of cultures and traditions.

Last but not least, get ready for our Auction! It will go online during the last week of March. Some of the newly added items include reserved seating for 5th grade awards, reserved parking for 5th grade awards. We also have popular items like marquee, name the cafeteria, name the music room, and be a principal for a day, just to name a few. The Auction will be live for only a week, so don't miss it!

Let’s have a great last 9 weeks!!!

January Volunteer of the Month

Congratulations to Pooja Srivastava, our January VIPS of the month!

Pooja has excelled in her role as Sponsorship chair. She has worked with multiple businesses enhancing our relationship in the community and obtaining extra financial support for CWE. She also serves as a room rep for 1st grade, chaperoned the 1st grade field trip, and assisted with World Culture Day. Thank you, Pooja!

VIPS Honorable Mentions

Priyanka Bansal and Munira Vejlani - Thanks to these wonderful 1st grader moms who are always willing to help in their respective classes - with a big smile. They come up with innovative ideas for class decor, and work seamlessly with each other.

Monal Jain - Monal is a 1st grade room mom and is very organized and prompt in her work. She has been extra helpful sort of like an assistant to me (grade level lead) planning and searching for activities during parties.

Complete Background Check Here

Just a reminder to make sure you have your district background check prior to volunteering with Commonwealth. We need you and your skills and are so appreciative of all of our volunteers. Volunteers are part of what makes Commonwealth such an amazing school!

Thank you to all who are reporting their off-campus volunteer hours!

Quick note: Feel free to estimate the total hours for the month and just submit one entry. This is how most people submit hours. Entering per day is fine as well. Please use the method that is easiest for you.

Please report your volunteer hours for November through the PTA website.
